For a silent-auction fundraiser I offered to create a custom-built cardboard object of the high-bidder’s choice. The winning bidders asked me to build a locomotive for their four year old, train-loving grandson.

When the locomotive is pushed the wheels roll and the drivers go around.

The cab is roomy enough for a kid to stand in.

The whole thing disassembles for transport in an average mini-van.

As per a secret arrangement, I delivered the finished piece to the backyard deck of the boy's grandparents' house while they were out for a day of fun, and I left before they arrived. The boy was so excited he did a happy dance.
